The Norris School Distirct is the smallest public school district in Wisconsin and proudly operates two schools, Norris Academy and Norris Academy Virtual School (NAVS).  Norris is located in rural southwest Waukesha County.  Norris has been "changing lives through the power of learning" serving the needs of diverse learners from all different backgrounds since 1927.

Norris leverages educational, behavioral health, and community resources to provide an integrated service for disadvantaged learners and their families. This educational service utilizes:

• A world-class diagnostic assessment that drives the learning experience

• A robust learner profile, providing a comprehensive picture of the learner across the four dimensions: academics, interest and employability, citizenship, and wellness

• Competency-based continuums that provide a framework of learning

• Learning plans that identify relevant goals and personalized learning experiences

• Trauma invested approach that provides a multi-level system of support for each learner

• An interdependent learning network that supports learners across dimensions

Learners at Norris Academy gain life, career and community experiences through an innovative approach that builds learner agency (ownership) and self-efficacy (worth) through a learner-centric educational delivery system that leverages educational, behavioral health, and community resources to provide unique learning experiences for learners across four dimensions; academic, employability, citizenship, and wellness. Competency continuums across each dimension define necessary learning. Through reflection and assessment across the four dimensions, learners follow the Process of 5 P's.  They first create a robust Learner Profile that they use to co-design personalized learning Plans and Pathways with Learning Specialists. Learners confer regularly with their Specialist in order to discuss Progress and gathering Proof of competency attainment. An interdependent Learning Team support each learners growth.

Enrollment at Norris Virtual Academy offers the same learner-centric approach that empowers learners to develop dispositions necessary to acquire knowledge and skills to pursue their passions, interests, and future to their fullest potential, while allowing the flexibility to learn at their own pace, space and when it best fits their individual schedule. Learners have the opportunity to work independently and with a community of peers in conjunction with their Learning Specialists to meet their goals. Each learner has access to coaches for additional support to meet their goals. The parent may also act as learning coach in addition to being involved in oversight and guidance. Regular interaction with the Learning Specialist are conducted through email and online meetings.
