State Assessments

The Norris School District utilizes a competency-based learning model to allow learners to move through school at their own pace to demonstrate evidence of proficiency related to skills learned.  Each course that learners can enroll in has an identified set of competencies and a corresponding competency pathway that shows what students need to do at each level for advancement.

General Mark Descriptors

Norris Academy utilizes a competency-based learning model.  Progress reports, issued at the close of each trimester,  provide a point in time documentation of progress to date.  General marks are used to provide ongoing feedback on where the learner’s current evidence of learning is in relation to the competency.   This means that learning and coursework continue until the learner has explored all competencies identified within a course and demonstrated proficiency on a minimum number of the total learning targets.  The general marks are described below.
